NOSTER & Science Microbiome Prize: Trillions of Microbes One Essay

Deadline:

February 14, 2026

Funding:

$25,000

The NOSTER & Science Microbiome Prize is an international award that recognizes innovative research by investigators who received their M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in the last ten years, and are working on the functional attributes of the microbiota. The research can include any organism that has potential to contribute to our understanding of human or veterinary health and disease, or to guide therapeutic interventions. The winner and finalists will be chosen by a committee of independent scientists, chaired by a senior editor at Science.

The first prize includes a USD 25,000 cash award, an online subscription to Science — and your winning essay published in Science!

Eligibility

For 2025, entrants must be early career scientists who hold an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D at the time of entry, and have received their degree in the last 10 years.

OREF/ Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation Research Grant

Deadline:

February 16, 2026

Funding:

$100,000

Solicits investigator-initiated proposals focusing on research in the science of biologic – reconstruction, bone regeneration, transplantation-allografts, and including stem cells for graft transplantation.

Eligibility

New investigators who have demonstrated a sustained interest in research and excellence in their training are encouraged to apply. Multidisciplinary research activity is strongly encouraged. An orthopaedic surgeon principal investigator (PI) must be licensed to practice in the U. S. and be working in an institution in the U.S. A PhD may serve as the principal investigator (PI) and must hold a faculty appointment in an orthopaedic department at an institution in the U.S.

Funding:

CHF 125’000

In general, applications must be in the field of oral tissue regeneration.

Bio-functionalisation of regenerative biomaterials

Projects developing or enhancing biomaterials to actively support tissue repair and regeneration — from surface modifications to biologically instructive materials with improved clinical performance.

Prognostication of regenerative wound healing

Research that improves our ability to predict healing outcomes, identify key biological markers, and advance predictive models of regenerative wound responses for better clinical decision‑making.

Eligibility

This programme provides funding for both early-career and established researchers, and teams who present with a track record in generating and translating basic research findings towards clinical application. Interdisciplinary (collaborative) research involving basic scientists and clinicians, as well as research groups from different universities/entities, is strongly encouraged.
